I regularly introduce myself to someone and find out that they have been attending The Chapel for a decade or more, and we just have never crossed paths! No shame in that. It’s just a fact of life in a bigger church. When you’re a part of a larger church, sometimes it’s hard to know what’s happening in the lives and ministries of others who aren’t in your regular circle. So, I want to tell you a story of something that’s going on in a corner of your church.
Did you know that we have a quilting group at The Chapel? For years a small band of ladies have been handcrafting small quilts to bless children and adults in need here in Akron and around the world. They meet on Tuesday afternoons, bring their sewing machines, and set up shop in the Berean Room.
Over the past month, this quilting group has been doing something heroic. As you know, Camp Carl is in the midst of major cabin renovations. New ceilings, walls, doors, floors, and bathrooms are going in. New bunk beds are being built by a band of faithful men. (That’s another heroic story!) And all of these cabins also needed new curtains.
It’s a long story, but somehow the need for new curtains found it’s way to the sewers of the quilting group. Long story, short: the quilting group has taken on the project of cutting and sewing (with lining!) 300 curtain panels. You read that right, 300!
This is a huge task, so you know what the quilters have done? They have asked their friends to help. Anyone who could so much as wield an iron could help them, so they asked, and more have joined in the effort. Last Tuesday there were 17 ladies busy in the Berean Room cranking out curtain panels to bless the ministry of Camp Carl!
This made me think of Hebrews 10:24-25 which says, “And let is consider how to stir one another up to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the day drawing near.”
How do we stir one another up to love and good works? It’s actually pretty simple! We do good work ourselves, and we invite others to join us. By working together, we have formed a group. As we work together, we love one another and encourage one another.
What good work are you doing? Who could you invite to join you? Encourage someone, even today, by stirring them up to love and good works!
